The centre of gravity for acitivities such as pharma, clinical and chemical development, as well as production will experience an immense move towards China. It brings along cost advantages, a fast growing domestic market and quickly advancing science and technology base.

Among both Western customers and fine chemical producers there is a growing interest, which is radiated by Chinese sources. Most large pharmaceutical companies are planning to significantly enlarge their share of fine chemicals outsourcing out of China. It is expected to reach 20-30% by 2006-2007, this compared with 5-10% at present. I will generate an increasing symbiosis between the West and China. In terms of primary pharmaceutical outsourcing they will be sharing roles between the two regions.
